Julen started his internship as a first person in Krakow. He has a chance to get a glimpse on how Mr Jacek Szczotka – owner of the carpentry workshop – and his son Barnaba – designer of the wood works – work with their colleagues to create extraordinary and unique pieces of furniture and more.
“I never figured I will work as a carpenter – it is not what I was aiming for. But I got tired of trying to get my designs made, and hearing that they are too complicated or even impossible to make. So there was no other way I had to manufacture them on my own” – Says Mr Szczotka.
It tells a lot about the projects that are carried out in this carpentry workshop, it also gives a great opportunity to Joulen to learn some new techniques.
Joulen tells us what he thinks about the place of his first internship.
It doesn’t look very modern they also use rather classic methods of carpentry, they are lending the place for now so it looks how it looks – very communist like industry space but i would say that the most important thing is the people you work with. And here I can say only good things. They are such a nice people I know I will have a hard time leaving. They are trying to help as much as they can.
The language and communication is not a big problem, the owner doesn’t speak English but his son and colleague do and make up for it
What Mr Szczotka produces out of wood is not something you see every day – I have not seen this kind of products in Spain. Their designs are very original I only regret that they don’t use computer programs to make them – I could help with that and practice my skill.

Their carpentry workshop looks like some small ones in Spain, we also have this kind of family based workshops that work just fine. But the problem I see is that they use almost the same methods and same machines I have used before, and I would also like to learn something new.
That I think I will accomplish while being in the second place of internship that is in Kalwaria in Mr Luczak bigger and more modern carpentry workshop. I think it is the best possible solution to have opportunity to work in both types of workshops while I am in Poland. Thank you for making that possible. |
